At the COP 17 in South Africa in 2011, 194 countries agreed to establish a binding international climate action agreement.
The Agence Française de Développement, the Alliance Française de Dhaka and the Embassy of France in Bangladesh are going to organise a series of events on climate change next week.
The opening event on Bridging Climate Change and Development will be inaugurated by French Ambassador to Bangladesh Sophie Aubert on Saturday.
This is part of the programme on United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP 21, which is going to be held in France in December this year, according to a press release issued by the French embassy.
At the COP 17 in South Africa in 2011, 194 countries agreed to establish a binding international climate action agreement and that negotiation is scheduled to be completed at COP 21.
The conference is important because, whatever agreement is established, it will act as a blueprint and catalyst for future international climate action.
Another point that COP 21 stands out for is that the impacts of climate change are occurring faster than many scientists had projected - be it in the form of sea-level rise, heat waves and other damaging extreme weather events.
The International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recently stated, once again, that climate change is human-driven, and that there is only a short window of time to respond as a global community.
Verging on this crucial conference in the history of mankind, the Embassy of France in Bangladesh, the Agence Française de Développement, and the Alliance Française de Dhaka are stepping up to raise awareness on this global challenge.
They will also organise two photo exhibitions that will be on display at La Galerie of the Alliance Française de Dhaka on May 16-23.
