In a series of special events from 12 - 16 November 2017 at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bonn (COP23), Momentum for Change will honour nineteen inspiring projects, winners of the United Nations 'Momentum for Change' Climate Solutions award, that demonstrate the exceptional amount of climate action happening around the world.  

 

The Momentum for Change initiative, spearheaded by the UN Climate Change secretariat, shines light on some of the most innovative, scalable and practical examples of what people across the globe are doing to combat climate change. These examples are called "Lighthouse Activities", and they are part of wider efforts to mobilize action and ambition, as national governments work toward implementing the Paris Climate Change Agreement and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals.

The special events recognizing these winning activities range from an award ceremony (Showcase Event), to a lunchtime "Climate Action Dialogue Series", and high-level panel discussions.

The exciting and dynamic Showcase Event will feature inspiring videos, photography, and a musical performance by Kenyan musician Suzanna Owiyo. UNFCCC Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa will give welcoming remarks, and it will be held in conjunction with the closing of the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action.

The "Climate Action Dialogue Series" highlight the on-the-ground, real-world examples of the 19 winning activities, and cover Momentum for Change's five focus areas: Women for Results, Financing for Climate Friendly Investment, ICT Solutions, Planetary Health, and Climate Neutral Now. Two high-level events with a panel of experts will further discuss the role of Planetary Health and ICT Solutions in implementing
